Roddick replacing Sampras for
The Greenbrier Tennis Showcase

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – (April 23, 2017): Andy Roddick will replace Pete Sampras in The Greenbrier Tennis Showcase, scheduled for June 3, 2017, after Sampras sustained an injury which will not allow him to properly prepare for the exhibition match against British tennis star Tim Henman.

“Unfortunately, due to an injury, I will not be able to properly prepare for the upcoming Greenbrier Tennis Showcase in June and will have to withdraw,” said Sampras, The Greenbrier Tennis Professional Emeritus. “I want to thank Andy for stepping up in my absence. I am sure that Andy and Tim will put on a competitive and entertaining match for fans. I always enjoy going to The Greenbrier and am looking forward to competing there again in the near future."

A former world No. 1, Roddick won the 2003 U.S. Open, was a finalist in four other Grand Slam tournaments and won 32 career ATP World Tour titles. He led the United States to a Davis Cup title in 2007.

Roddick and Henman have met five times on the court, with Henman winning three of those matches.

“I’m thrilled to be coming back to The Greenbrier,” said Roddick, who played Sampras in The Greenbrier Tennis Showcase in 2016. “I’ve enjoyed every trip I’ve made to the beautiful resort, and I look forward to another challenging match against a fantastic opponent in Tim Henman.”

Henman was ranked as high as No. 4 in the world during his accomplished professional career, which spanned from 1992 through 2007. He won 496 career singles matches and 11 titles, reaching the semifinal round of a Grand Slam tournament six times. He will be playing at The Greenbrier for the first time.

“I am very excited to be playing at The Greenbrier for the first time in June,” said Henman, one of the top British tennis stars in recent history. “I have heard such great things about the event and the resort. I have had the opportunity to play Andy five times while we were on tour. All of our matches have been extremely close, and I look forward to meeting him again on the court.”

Tickets for the lower bowl start at $100, with upper bowl seats starting at $35. For more information, or to purchase tickets to see these tennis stars in action, visit or call 1-855-563-8760.
