    Whitewater Rafting – Gauley River

The Upper Gauley River drops over 335 feet in less than 13 miles. The Upper Gauley River is the essence of big water rafting excitement creating an intense whitewater experience. Upper Gauley trips are not for the faint of heart with class V+ rapids and 5 consecutive monster runs. Prior rafting experience strongly recommended.

The Lower Gauley River is made up of 70 long, continuous rapids and powerful hydraulics. Rollercoaster waves rise and fall in great swells. Lower Gauley trips are class IV – V rapids that offer the thrill of the Upper with a little room to breathe. Prior rafting experience recommended.

Policies & Must-Know Information

  • Reservations must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the time of the scheduled trip. A cancellation fee of $140 will be charged for reservations cancelled inside of 24 hours. No shows will be charged at the full amount of the trip.
  • Upper Gauley participants must be at least 15 years. Lower Gauley participants must be at least 14 years. Prior rafting experience is recommended for both sections of the Gauley River. A release form must be signed the morning prior to departure. Trips during September require a minimum of 2 resort guest participants, and trips during October require a minimum of 4 resort guest participants to proceed.
  • Flexible, secure footwear is required. Guests should also be equipped with comfortable swimwear and outdoor clothing, a cap or visor, sunglasses with secure straps and sunscreen for the trip. An extra dry shirt or windbreaker are suggested. Please also bring a set of dry clothes to change into once you are off the river.
  • Tours meet at The Greenbrier’s North Entrance at 6:45am, and transportation departs at 7:00am for the Adventures on the Gorge base camp; located 100 minutes from the resort. Tours return to The Greenbrier by 6:30pm.
