Greenbrier County Takes Home Three Awards During the 2009 WV Governor’s Conference on Tourism
Lewisburg, WV (September, 24, 2009) – On Tuesday, September 22, two Greenbrier County tourism organizations, The Greenbrier and the Greenbrier County Convention & Visitors Bureau, walked away from the 2009 WV Governor’s Conference on Tourism with three Stars of the Industry Awards.
The Greenbrier received an award for Best Print Article for “When Glamour Mattered.” The article appeared in the July /August 2008 issue of Golf for Women. The award for Best Print Article is given to the organization whose editorial coverage is unpaid media coverage and does not include advertorial material provided through cooperative advertising projects and special sections. The 11-page feature highlighted the resort’s rich history and current offerings and included numerous photographs.
The Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) was awarded Most Innovative Marketing Campaign which is given to the organization that identifies and implements a new idea through integrated marketing efforts. The CVB implemented a Spring Blitz which included social media components, a getaway weekend during the Lewisburg Chocolate Festival and radio, internet and print advertisements.
The West Virginia Tourism Oshel Craigo Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Sharon Rowe, Tourism Commissioner and Past-President of the Greenbrier County CVB. Persons nominated for this award demonstrate continued and long-term leadership, benevolence or contributions to the growth and success of the entire state’s tourism industry. This person is the epitome of the state’s success. Ms. Rowe received this award for her achievements in helping to bolster and raise the visibility of West Virginia’s tourism industry through her 27-year career at The Greenbrier, to her service on the West Virginia Tourism Commission, to the start-up of the Greenbrier County CVB, to her leadership at the West Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association, and to her service as past chair of the Board of Advisors of Historic Hotels of America.
“Sharon is a trusted resource and valued friend of the industry,” said Kara Dense, Executive Director of the CVB. “She has evolved into a familiar face of West Virginia’s tourism industry not only because of her dedication to the profession, but also because of her energetic, steadfast attitude and work ethic in constantly raising the visibility of her home state. We are greatly blessed to have her right here in Greenbrier County.”
