Apicius Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a professional food writer whose prose rings with a clear voice and reflects the delicious joys of the table. In the spirit of Apicius, the first Roman to write cookbooks, the goal is to grant this award to that writer whose work will stand the test of time.
Chronicle Books Scholarship
This $500 scholarship is awarded to a professional food writer who demonstrates an ability to write recipes and recipe headnotes that are clear and effective with a voice that is personal, authoritative and original.
Edible Communities Scholarship
This $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a food wirter of demonstrated ability who work pertains to honoring and preserving authentic regional foodways and embodies the Edible Communities mission of "Celebrating the Abundance of Local Foods, Season by Season." Essays and narrative non-fiction with a strong personal voice are encouraged.
The Greenbrier Scholarship
The Greenbrier offers a full scholarship to one writer attending the 2009 Symposium for Professional Food Writers. This award covers all Symposium costs from May 11 to May 15, excluding travel. The mission of this award is to recognize food writing talent and ability, with an emphasis on the process of merging description and clarity in writing.
The James Peterson Food Writing Passion Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a food writer whose writing ties food with life and with a certain passion in being alive. The main criterion for this award is written excellence and "just good fun" in writing about food and drink.
The Fred Thompson Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a food writer whose work is noted for particular excellence in clarity and balance.
