THE GREENBRIER TO HOST EXPERT-LED
WELLNESS WEEKEND IN MARCH


White Sulphur Springs, WV - January 28, 2014: The Greenbrier resort and spa, set in the scenic Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia, will host a weekend dedicated to relaxation and rejuvenation. From March 7 to 9, the Wellness Weekend, a part of The Greenbrier's first annual Discovery Series, will feature yoga sessions for both beginners and advanced yogis, lectures on healthy eating and walks through the beautiful natural surroundings of the resort's more than 10,000 private acres.  With one of the oldest spas in the U.S. and one of the top spas in the world today, The Greenbrier has centuries of experience in the curative arts.

Weekend highlights will include:
 
  • Wine Tastings: "Health-Conscious Wines" and "Biodynamic & Organic Wines" in Prime 44 Vineyard: The Greenbrier's Wine Director/Sommelier, Brian W. McClure, will walk guests through a tasting of wines that are lighter in calories as well as a tasting of wines that are grown organically and have numerous health benefits. 
 
  • Guided Meditation Trail Walk: Beginning at the north entrance, participating guests will travel along Howard's Creek through the beautiful surroundings of the Allegheny Mountains while enjoying the relaxing natural sounds of the forest.
 
  • "SUPER Foods You Can Use" Lecture and Cooking Demo in the Culinary Arts Center: Connie Gottshall, R.D. with The Greenbrier Clinic, will identify what foods make one feel better, slow down the aging process and help prevent disease. The lecture will be followed by a cooking demo led by the culinary team on utilizing the foods discussed in everyday cooking.  A tasting and recipe cards of items being prepared are included.
 
  • Yoga and Pilates Instruction: A variety of yoga classes for both beginner and advanced students will be held throughout the weekend in either the Eisenhower Room or the Crystal Ballroom. Classes like Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Power Yoga, Restorative / Yoga Nidra, Mat Pilates, Gentle Yoga, YogaFit and Hatha Yoga will be taught by Maggie Lively from Dancing Mind Yoga Studio in Washington, DC or Janna Oxendine, Fitness Instructor at The Greenbrier.
 
  • 5K Fun Run: Beginning at The Greenbrier's north entrance, guests can jump start their day with a 5K Fun Run throughout the resort grounds.
 
The Greenbrier Discovery Series is a collection of eight themed weekend events hosted by industry personalities such as: design guru Carleton Varney, Curator of The Greenbrier; a team from the hit PBS show, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW; Monte Durham, celebrity wedding consultant and fashion director of Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta.
